Just us two? I knew this world had some problems, but sheesh! The Paper Mario series has some of the best games in the Mario series, and I am looking forward to this far more than SM3DL. The art is gorgeous, and the 3D visual are stunning!

Yeah, I'll buy this for sure. I'm on board with you guys. Being negative about other games is more fun though.

Looks cool. I've never really been into Paper Mario for some reason, though. I think I just thought the concept/name was cheesy in the beginning. Only one imposter was Super PM for Wii, because of the 2D-3D mechanics.

Probably one of the only reasons I'll be getting a 3DS is this game.

I'm torn with this game... I liked the concept of Paper Mario but as with most RPG's, I found it got boring after a while. I prefer the Mario & Luigi series, though even that I get bored from. The one I enjoyed the most was Super Paper Mario, and I know most Paper Mario fans hated that since it was so different. Paper Mario 3DS does look interesting, but I'll probably not get it. My sister loves the series... so there's always a chance she'll buy the game or something and play it on my 3DS so if she does, then I'll try it out.

Cool! I probably won't get it, but I think my sister might since I'm giving her my 3DS when I get the 3DS XL. She's a fan of the series.

Very funny. I actually do enjoy the series somewhat, but I get bored of RPG's easily. I was considering buying it... but since she'll probably get it, I can watch her play and give it a try myself.

Post Re: Paper Mario (3DS)
So Paper Mario: Sticker Star is out now! Downloaded it at midnight and so did my sister. Initially, I was just going to let her download it and I'd watch or something... but then I figured I'd just give it a shot on my own and play alongside her so that if I needed help with anything, she could help me out. The thing that pushed me over the edge was the free special download of Donkey Kong: Original Edition for downloading it.

Anyways, got it at midnight last night. Took around 25 minutes to download. For comparison...
New Super Mario Bros. 2 - 370 MB - 2950 blocks - 10 minutes to download
Paper Mario: Sticker Star - 525 MB - 4199 blocks - 25 minutes to download

Those are rough numbers with the sizes and everything, but just thought I'd put that comparison here for me.

As for the game itself, I played it for 15-20 minutes or so and it was interesting. Can't really comment on much except to say that it looks great in 3D, this series is perfect for that. Gonna play more in a little while.

Anyone else get this game?

I'll be picking it up in another 2-3 weeks. I would have it now if I had budgeted for it, but I did not since I didn't know the review situation. I have $20 on the eShop, and just need to wait another 2 weeks to have the other $20 from my fun money. I was going to be downloading it since I have that money already in the eShop.

Post Re: Paper Mario (3DS)
I downloaded it, I'm already 2 1/2 hours into the game. While the combat system is still much different from the first game and Thousand Year Door I do enjoy the return to turn based combat. The game being structured in levels is a little weird and is reminiscent of Super Paper Mario. I can understand why the developers chose to go that route. It is, after all, a portable Paper Mario so having it set up in short levels and being able to save often would work well for people playing the game on the fly. At the same time those of us who want to sit down and crank a couple hours into the game aren't hindered from doing so. Overall I'm pretty happy with it. The visuals look great on the 3D screen and it feels like I am playing a Paper Mario game. So far there hasn't been much story but it is nearly identical to the first three games where Mario has to go save/collect something. In this case Royal Stickers, which are essentially the Star Spirits/Crystal Stars/Pure Hearts of this game. I am disappointed that the XP system was abandoned in favor of strengthening Mario by finding stickers and instead of Flower Points the player has to collect stickers that allow you to use attacks. I find myself avoiding battles so I don't have to waste stickers on weak enemies. Had there still been an XP system battles wouldn't seem as pointless. I feel that enemies are placed in the level as an annoyance rather than a challenge. My opinion is still being shaped on this game so I'll probably chime in with more later.

I've now played a total of three and a half hours and I'm enjoying this more than I thought I would. There is no leveling up and stuff, and instead the gameplay is based around the stickers... some people may not like that, but I actually prefer it. Seeing as how I'm not big on RPG's, this is a plus for me. And collecting the stickers is so addicting. There are some clever uses for the stickers as well, which keep me interested. And the game looks great in 3D, this series is perfect for it. All in all, I'm really enjoying this.

Oh, and there was one moment that was super awesome:
Spoiler: show
I forgot which world it was but it was one of the first levels, maybe 1-2 or 1-3. The background in the level started to get knocked down from something you did and as each thing fell down, it played the Mario theme music. It was just a really cool moment that I enjoyed in the game.

Lots of little neat things like the spoiler above and also how moving your 3DS makes the stickers shine, just like if you had a shiny sticker in real life and moved it back and forth to see it shine. Good stuff!

Yeah that and not having partners has been the biggest letdown.

I knew about there being no partners, and I had my peace with that for a while. But no XP system? How do you "upgrade" Mario?

You gain HP though in-game events that happen. And instead of upgrading Mario, you can get better and more powerful stickers. There are "Shiny" stickers which are better than normal ones, and then "Flashy" stickers which are even better than that. And then there are other special ones that are super powerful as well. Since Mario uses stickers to attack, it's the stickers that have different power levels basically.

You can also gain XP by searching the levels for the power ups. One thing I have noticed are the lack of action commands. You no longer have to hold left on the control stick/pad to charge up the hammer, you just press "A" when Mario brings it back to a certain point and then it flashes "NICE".

Okay, I can dig that I guess. But only because I have to. I really hope when the Wii-U Paper Mario comes out, it'll go back to XP, turn based combat, and have multiple party members, possibly new characters to the series. Is that asking too much? All I want is what they had right the first time. :P

Darkwish, have you played Paper Mario 64?

I've played a little bit of it, got it on the Wii Virtual Console... got up to a part with multiple branching paths and it was so confusing as to where to go next and I just got frustrated and gave up lol. Rented and played a couple hours of Super Paper Mario on Wii and enjoyed that. So that's my experience with the Paper Mario series.
