Post Steam OS and Steam Machines
Valve has announced an all new, Linux-based operating system that will be available for free. It is specifically built for gaming and Steam.

This OS will also be used on their new living room gaming PC line called "Steam Machines" Apparently, the entire existing Steam library will be streamable (not sure how it works) and several hundred titles will be ported to Steam OS for it's launch.

I think this is going to be a major competitor in the console gaming area. Especially since your same game library will be available on your PC and Steam Machine!

What are your thoughts?

Intrigued. I've been thinking about grabbing one of my old PCs and turning it into a Linux machine anyhow. So this might make me do it.

Apparently they will be sending out 300 beta units to select users who qualify. The last step I need to qualify is to have 10 Steam friends. Right now I only have 3. Does anyone here use Steam and mind if I temporarily add them as a friend?

lol I can't help but laugh at that thing. It looks like it will be so awkward to use. Not only will it not have physical sticks that dictate movement, but the buttons are in the middle, which has to be a weird reach. If a game focuses on using the touch-pad things for movement (i.e. an FPS), only 2 buttons are really available for a quick reach, other than the triggers. It just doesn't make sense to me. Maybe I'm missing something, though.

Well, if I understood correctly, the touch pads are buttons too. But yah, I agree, it looks a really awkward to use. I tried using an XBox controller to play portal 2 and just couldn't get the hang of it, I can image what it would be like without actual analog sticks.
