UNSTOPPABLE JAPANESE KICKSTARTER MIGHTY NO. 9 COMING TO PLAYSTATION 3, XBOX 360, AND Wii U!
CONSOLE VERSIONS JOIN PC, MAC, AND LINUX — AND THERE WAS MUCH REJOICING!
Tokyo, Japan – September 17, 2013 – Thanks to the generosity of nearly 40,000 supporters worldwide, Japanese action-game Mighty No. 9
will now be developed for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U consoles. The announcement was made on the project’s Kickstarter page (http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mig ... ighty-no-9
) as it surpassed $2.2 million in crowdfunding and achieved the highly-anticipated stretch goal, adding console platforms to the previously-announced PC, Mac, and Linux versions.
Reaching the milestone after just 17 days since its surprise launch at the PAX Prime gaming convention in Seattle, Mighty No. 9 is already the most successful Japanese crowdfunding project to date and is on track to be one of the biggest gaming Kickstarter campaigns from any territory, period.
Mighty No. 9 is an evolution of the classic Japanese side-scrolling action games that project leader Keiji Inafune built his reputation on as the former head of R&D at Capcom. The game achieved its initial funding goal of $900,000 in less than 40 hours during Labor Day weekend, and the momentum hasn’t let up since. Thanks to an incredibly active group of supporters, project funding has continued to smash through stretch goals one after the other, including extra levels, new game modes, Mac and Linux versions, and a series of making-of documentary episodes from 2 Player Productions.
Mighty No. 9 is being developed by Inafune’s company, Comcept, together with Mega Man 9 and 10 developer Inti Creates Co., Ltd. The Kickstarter campaign was planned and executed by Tokyo-based game consulting and localization firm 8-4, Ltd., with partner sourcing and assistance from the DDM game talent agency.
The Mighty No. 9 Kickstarter campaign continues on toward its next goals, including an online co-op mode and support for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, involving backers and fans with daily updates of concept art, videos, podcasts, and an upcoming backer-vote to determine the design of one of Mighty No. 9’s main characters.
