Post 3DS vs. 3DS XL
For the second time now, the rubber grip on my circle pad has popped off. So I am debating between just gluing it back on again, or replacing my 3DS entirely.

My Dad recently got a 3DS XL, and I'm loving the screen size, but I like how crisp the original 3DS screen looks compared to the XL. What are your guy's thoughts and experiences? Has anyone done the upgrade to the XL? If so, was it worth it?

Considering upgrading to the XL myself, but only because I like the bigger screen. If I do, I'm not sure what I'll do with my original. I really like it, but I know I won't get much if I trade it in at a store.

According to the website, GameStop is offering double trade-in credit until Aug 18. Others online said the original 3DS was worth about $40-$50 trade-in, so I figured I might be able to get $100 off a 3DS XL.

Keep in mind if you upgrade, you'll need both systems to do the system transfer.

Personally, I upgraded to the 3DS XL and am loving it. My sister got my old one. The bigger screen size is awesome for games and I think the system looks nicer too.

I also did the upgrade as well. Definitely consider the transfer. Gamestop let me do it in-store. However you need some sort of Wi-Fi connection to do it, I had my tablet with a hotspot. though I heard some Gamestops have Wi-Fi so you may not need to go this route.

If you don't transfer, you lose all. Games and saves tied to virtual games. If you do the transfer, you do keep the Ambassador Games as well (in case that was a concern).

I did it since they had the $100 promo towards the XL, I wanted the larger screens (I used to get cramps when playing the original - especially MK7/KIU). Also with the screen scruffiness is gone as well. Just seemed like positives all around for me (outside of the cost).

Ok, that's good to know. I knew that it would transfer everything, but I wasn't aware that the transfer process required a wi-if connection.

I also get cramps during long MK7 sessions. Especially when the tournament was on. The corners of the 3DS are too pointy.

I'm not sure what you mean by scruffiness though. Could you clarify that?

Sure, it should be easy to see. Basically when closed the screens get a little too friendly with each other, and oftentimes leave some sort of water-like mark on the top screen. You'll see like a straight line where part of the bottom frame presses into the top screen. You need to hold it in the light a particular way and you should see the line. It's not noticible during play, but unless you are obsessed with cleaning it, you should see it pretty clearly (it also rubs right off too).

Oh, ok. I know what you're talking about now. Ya, I get that too.

I haven't seen it on the XL yet, so I think they fixed it.

They did. They put a barrier between the two screens to prevent one from hitting the other when closed.

Well, I went for it. I was in Gamestop today and they said they would give me $100 for my 3DS, since there is a double trade-in credit special on until the 18th. (plus I have a Circle Pad Pro I can trade in with it) I also reserved a black 3DS XL on for Sunday. So hopefully when I go there on Sunday, they have a WiFi signal to do the system transfer. Otherwise I'll just trade in my old 3DS later and use the credit on some WiiU Pro Controllers.

Same here. Although the GS employees seem to think all you have to do is switch out your SD card to your new one. Yeah... Dunno about that. Ha!

Decided not to trade in... At least for now, unless my wife would like a different color. For now, she is gonna use my original black 3DS.
