Post Nintendo Shutting Down Many Wii Channels on June 28
NintendoFuse News

It looks like Nintendo is moving forward with Wii U and leaving the Wii behind. In a recent news post on Nintendo of America’s website, the told of their intentions to close down many of the Wii Channel services, like the Forecast Channel, Nintendo Channel, and Check Mii Out Channel. Additionally, much of the WiiConnect24 data will be stopped, like the ability to send messages and Miis to your Wii Friends List.

While this was expected at some time, it is probably bad news for those who just picked up their first Wii system for a really cheap price. Now, they find out many of the online features to be disappearing.

The services will be discontinued on June 28, 2013. The full news post is below.

Shutdown of Wii Channels

We at Nintendo sincerely thank you for your continued patronage of our company’s products. We would like to inform you that a portion of the network services offered through the Wii console will be discontinued starting June 28, 2013.

We apologize to those of you currently using these services, and ask for your understanding. The affected applications are as follows:

• Forecast Channel

• News Channel

• Everybody Votes Channel

• Nintendo Channel

• Check Mii Out Channel

• Data exchange between Wii friends on WiiConnect24*

*Wii message exchanges via Wii Message Board, Mii exchanges via Mii Channel, and exchanges of messages or data in some game titles will no longer be possible.

Following the discontinuation, the above services will not be available even if they are started up on the Wii menu. However, services other than those mentioned above, such as the automatic receipt of “Today’s Accomplishments” on the Wii Message Board and the Wii Shop Channel are unaffected and can continue to be used.

I used Nintendo Channel too, until they started using their YouTube page more, so now I just watch all the Nintendo stuff I want on there.
