Disney buys Lucasfilm; more Star Wars movies coming
So we have some big news! Here are the details... - Disney is buying Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion - Star Wars Episode 7 will release in 2015, with Episodes 8 and 9 to follow - This new trilogy will continue the story of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia after episode 6, Return of the Jedi. - After this new trilogy, Disney will release a new Star Wars movie every 2-3 years - George Lucas will serve as creative consultant on the new movies, but will not write or direct - Lucasfilm has already developed an extensive storyline for the new trilogy and Episode 7 is in early-stage development - Kathleen Kennedy, the current co-chairman of Lucasfilm, will serve as executive producer for the new movies Source: http://news.theage.com.au/breaking-news ... 28if8.htmlSo what do you think of this... are you outraged that they're releasing more Star Wars movies? Or excited for what's to come? Personally, I'm excited. And the biggest reason I'm excited is because George Lucas is not writing or directing. I enjoyed the Star Wars movies, some more than others of course. But I felt the series had some potential that it never reached. And Lucas lately has been making very terrible choices in the editing of the movies with re-releases. Some of his decisions are just plain stupid. So I'm very happy he's not writing or directing, and I think because of that these movies could be really interesting.

Lets get us some Pixar, Star Wars, and Marval worlds in the next Kingdom Hearts, hopefully Disney is run by competent individuals.
I think thats way too many Star Wars movies. (but to think they will make that much back with probably just two or three movies...)

Re: Disney buys Lucasfilm; more Star Wars movies coming
Really not sure how I feel about this. I don't think it's good but I don't think it's the worst thing to happen to the franchise. Maybe the prequel trilogy was rock bottom and it can only get better from here on out. One can only hope.

I didn't really think that episodes one and three were all that bad - they just weren't true to the originals.

minecrafter47 wrote: the cartoon one or the real one Well Disney now owns all of it, but the new movies coming are live action, not cartoons. I don't hate episode I or II, I just don't particularly care for them much. But I actually enjoyed episode III. Yea, it had its moments of terrible acting and other stuff (Darth Vader's "NOOOO" was terrible)... but all in all, I enjoyed it. I own episode III on DVD and episodes IV-VI on VHS. Wanted to get blu-rays, but George Lucas screwed those up so I'm not supporting those releases.

I've never seen a star wars movie, I guess it doesn't seem worth it to start if the beginning isn't very good.

Plenty of people never lived to see the prequels - if the sequels were good enough for them, they're good enough for us :)

Disney buys Lucasfilm; more Star Wars movies coming
I don't think it's really that bad at all. It isn't like the franchise was going anywhere good at this point. I'm excited to see what comes of this. I hear most of the Star Wars novels are fantastic, so I can see the new storyline being great.
Star Wars is literally a huge universe with a lot of potential, so a new movie every few years could produce a lot of interesting stories. Most of the people against this are just old hats who are stuck in the "good ol' days" and think everything was better when it was in their time.

Re: Disney buys Lucasfilm; more Star Wars movies coming
To be fair, I had quite forgotten that the Pirates series was Disney. Those sequels were okay.
But, Disney leans heavily on humor. Can they make a Star Wars sequel that does not feel like a Disney movie? I highly doubt it.
It would be interesting to see Johnny Depp get a supporting role, though.

It would be interesting to see Johnny Depp get a supporting role, but Burton had better keep his grubby hands off. Doesn't necessarily mean Disney will get involved in the movie making process. Disney bought Marvel, but that didn't change anything about the Marvel movies.

Disney does more than animation, and has many subsidiaries, one of which is now Lucasfilm. Disney also owns Touchstone, which made Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, The Prestige, and many more. Add Marvel to the mix, and you have evidence that Disney doesn't Disney-fy everything they own.

Meh we only live once (that we know of...), roll those movies out. As long as they have interesting characters and a great story to tell, go for it.

One guy who read the outlines for the entire Star Wars saga (originally meant to be 12 episodes) said that episodes 7-9 were the most interesting of them all. While there are no details as to whether the new films made by LucasFilm under Disney's ownership will continue on with the second half of Lucas's original story, it's entirely possible.

If they stick to the lore on post-IV, V, VI based lore, expect even hammier acting than the prequels. Unless they take the new live action movies in a whole other direction, this is going to be a complete and utter catastrophe. How about a Star Wars movie based on The Old Republic era?
