 Wii to WiiU System transfer
Has anyone tried the system transfer yet? I have a few questions that I haven't found the answers to yet.
1) I have a couple of VC titles on my Wii but all the rest of my WiiWare and VC is on an SD card. I have another SD card that holds all of my Rock Band DLC. One I do the system transfer, do these SD cards become usable on the WiiU? 2) Will Rock Band 3 instruments and DLC that has already been purchased be usable on the WiiU?

Re: Wii to WiiU System transfer
How come they are on different SD cards? I would try to redownload stuff onto one SD card. Then do the transfer.
I'm scared how mine will work, all of the stuff is on the SD card already, all the VC games. So it says to plug into the Wii U first, so is it going to reformat it? Worrying about that now, so I'm backing it up on my PC before starting.

Re: Wii to WiiU System transfer
Do NOT use a SD card that has stuff on it, I believe it's wiped clean. Anything saved on the Wii will transfer over. Anything saved on a SD card will have to be redownloaded from your purchase history on the Wii Shop Channel. Although saves will transfer.
Granted, I haven't done it yet. This is just my understanding from what I read. Will do mine tonight or tomorrow.

I'll probably transfer my WiiWare and VC titles to my Rock Band card so that I can have an empty card for the transfer.

Re: Wii to WiiU System transfer
My transfer completed. It is ONLY save data, channels and stuff do not transfer. So it's your Wii save data, WiiWare save data, and Virtual Console save data. All channels (which includes Wii Virtual Console titles) it says it has to redownload. I also have some DLC for Mega Man 9 and Guitar Hero. I believe it said I had to redownload that as well. It said it was in the purchase history. I'll update when I go through it.

I would imagine Rock Band DLC would be included as well then. You said that it won't transfer any channels, so do I understand correctly that even if the channels are already on an SD card, they still have to be re-downloaded?

Re: Wii to WiiU System transfer
Not enough time to read through other responses, but yes I have done the transfer.
Don't worry about what SD card to use, because none of the data from your SD card is transferred anyway. It only transfers what it sees on the system memory. So, put all your save data that you want to save on the system memory, along with any games you don't want to re-download. Then transfer using an SD card. All your Wii Points, shop history, past purchases, etc. will be transferred over except for a few app exceptions. Also, you will not be able to play all your downloaded games on your old Wii anymore. It will, in a way, be like you are starting from scratch on that system. Similarly, you cannot use an SD card filled with all your games on the Wii U. They must be re-downloaded onto an SD card from the Wii U. If you put your old one in with all your games, you will see them, but you will not be able to open them and play them.

Re: Wii to WiiU System transfer
I am actually gonna start fresh on the Wii U, don't really have any saves of importance on the Wii that I want to carry over to the U.

I transferred since at some point I will put in a Wii game, and don't want to start from scratch. It will replace the Wii in the living room at some point, so 1 less device is always good.

Re: Wii to WiiU System transfer
I transferred because my Wii hasn't really been working right for about a year, so it will be nice to play those games again without having to worry. Also, I have a couple saves that I do not want to lose (Mario Kart & NSMBWii at the least). Other than that, I wanted all my VC and WiiWare games playable on my Wii U. The Wii will still be around, as I will keep it for a collectors item, but probably won't use it much (not like I did anyway, due to the problems it had).
By the way, I recorded the video "progress bar" as I was transferring, and it will be posted soon. So fun with the Pikmin!
