Post Re: Greg's Gaming Log
Still pumping numerous hours into Radiant Historia. Been one my favorite RPGs on the DS (that I've played). I don't think I had too many moments for Fractured Soul or VC games this past week. It stinks since I'm so into it, I'm playing this over Skyrim. Need to find a balance or something...

Wii, I did download La-Mulana, but sadly only made it a few minutes. I had hoped to play it, but my wife wanted to weigh in on Wii Fit, then after being upset with the outcome we went to the gym. So I didn't get any time to play it really.

I did play some Kid Icarus this week for the tournament, mostly Saturday. Hosted a 20 minute session or so after the finals and had all sorts of fun. Mostly got 3rd or 4th or 5th, but still was fun none-the-less.

Yoshi's Island DS beat it last night. Only had a few levels left. Not really caring to 100% it, didn't enjoy the game THAT much. I did come somewhat close, only missing a few coins, and less than 10 levels (I think around 4-5) are not 100%.

Here is the current order. This is until Paper Mario Sticker Star releases next month:
Skyrim / La Mulana - Wednesdays / Random free time
Super Mario 64 DS (over 50 stars already)
Legend of Zelda (NES - but on 3DS)
Fractured Soul
Kid Icarus
Metroid 2
...

Current plan unless something awesome releases (like on the eShop/Wii Shop Channel) before Sticker Star.

There will be time for random Kid Icarus/Mariokart 7 matches as well.

Post Re: Greg's Gaming Log
Got some new information finally!

Well I started my 4-heart challenge of the original Legend of Zelda. I have to say I'm surprised I'm already in Level-9. I was playing while my wife was having some tests done (see my journal).

The way I have it right now, just get 4 hearts (level 1 puts the extra in the doorway so you basically have to get it). Basically I am refusing to use/acquire medicine, no blue/red ring, and using the original sword. I didn't have much trouble with levels 1-3, but started to get hard in level 4. I ended up getting the step ladder and jumping to level 6. After dozens of tries, I got the wand and another several dozen beat level 6. I then went back and beat level 4, level 5. I then jumped into 7, only had some difficulties. Beat 7 then the fun started in level 8. I really really hate the third room (north). After numerous tries there, I went through. Then was the fun getting the magic key. Another several dozen tries I acquired it. Finally, was the fun advancing to the left side where the boss is. Another room full of Blue Darknuts with 2 statues launching projectiles at you. Well I finally made it and beat level 8.

Now the real fun of Level 9. I made it past the first spiny dude and had lots of trouble with the wizrobes in the room to the left. I eventually got lucky and got the stop watch and passed through. I'm now attempting to get the Silver Arrow which is proving to be quite difficult. I have 2.5 hearts in my save state leading to the pair of rooms with wizrobes guarding the silver arrow. I seem to be at a disadvantage with the room design, so I haven't quite figured out how to beat them so easily. I have 6 bombs left and thinking it will be very hard to get this silver arrow.

The other update is that I started up a second file on Mutant Mudds. With the update coming on Thursday, I wanted to re-beat this game as well.

Post Re: Greg's Gaming Log
Been playing Mariokart 7 like crazy now. A fellow contestant has shown me the light and the art of picking the ideal kart combination. I have seen my supreme reign returning from Wii and N64. It's probably not ideal for time trials which I noticed last night, but seems to be extremely useful in online play. I'm ranking 1st or close to it the majority of random races. There still are the offsets where I get knocked off the course or a victim of the all mighty blue spiny shell at the most critical point in the race.

I did have an epic win last night, where it was on the Mountain course (Rock Rock?). I was in second and gliding to the finish line when a spiny had struck first place and sent him to the floor and me being able to glide over the blast radius and fly in for a first place finish.

Also reviewing 2 Fast 4 Gnomz which is an interesting game. Look out for the review on November 1st, the day it releases on the eShop!

Also in the small chunks of time, replaying Mudds at the moment. I did not complete my Zelda challenge, but it has not been forgotten.

That's cool. I'm looking forward to the review. Hey, I entered a contest to win a d/l code for this game the other day and I won! I only played it for 5 minutes so far, but I like it. Enjoy it!

It's similar to Samurai G, but it's better. I like how there's an end to the level. There's 45 levels of craziness.

Even with my trip, I'm still playing games!

Since the last update, I've been playing Mutant Mudds. I finished the replay, now working on the new DLC levels. I'm halfway through those. They are some pretty tough levels I must say.

Also been playing a tad of Mariokart 7, basically doing a few time trials and street pass challenges.

Finally, the street pass plaza continuing with the new puzzle, (already 21/40) which came from a massive purchase of random pieces (always like to start that way). Since i didn't get the new frame until I got home, haven't gotten a single pink one yet. Also continuing Find Mii II, on the final boss of my 3rd play though (2nd on the 2nd quest).

Decent, but super short. Took about 5-7 hours to beat it, has no online multiplayer (only local). I also came somewhat close to 100% of the game as well, but just missed a most S rankings (got mostly As), and only missed 2 artifacts. I got about half of the emblems (achievements).

I'll be posting the review this week hopefully.

I've been playing all sorts of stuff. I will only be highlighting the extended play sessions on the podcast though. Complete list from the last 2 weeks:

Wii U:
Assassin's Creed III - Yes, I finally started it!
New Super Mario Brothers U
Nintendo Land (like 1 to 2 hours of multiplayer with the family on the 12/8) - Tried out Zelda with others, and we did Mario Chase 4 times
Nano Assault Neo
Little Inferno

Wii (Wii Channel on Wii U menu):
Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two

3DS:
Crashmo - these levels get hard quicker...
Kid Icarus - random multiplayer matches, clear street passes
Mariokart 7 - random matches, clear street passes
New Super Mario Brothers 2 - clear street passes (only attempted a few of the records), set new personal record on the Gold Classic Pack DLC
Paper Mario: Sticker Star - did 1 more level, on 3-5.

I decided to start Kingdom Hearts: Drop Dream Distance last night. So far only was doing the parts that were in the demo. Lot more story and collection stuff to learn. This is a first for me, I don't tend to juggle so many games and switch back and forth. I'm thinking at some point some games will reach out and claim additional time, and will be heading back to pick up the others.

3DS seems fine with 3 games of juggling. At least 2 are on the console, and only 1 cart. Hopefully all 3 will be done before Fire Emblem: Awakening.

Post Re: Greg's Gaming Log
I'm playing/starting way too many games, and it's hard to start finishing games. I typically try to finish/beat/complete each title that I start.

These past few weeks I've focused in on like 2-3 titles at a time.
Currently playing: Last Story (Wii), Fire Emblem Awakening (3DS) and rotating in small session of a retro game. It's been a while since my last update, so I've also worked through a little more of Kingdom Hearts 3D before I got Fire Emblem. I also picked up Tokyo Crash Mobs (review submitted), Balloon Fight (Wii U virtual console) and have been playing Last Story (Wii) on a library rental. This past week I got Xenoblade thanks to Jeremy, another title to eventually play.

As of this writing, the only Wii games I will play are:
Xenoblade
Last Story
Pandora's Tower
Epic Mickey 2: Power of Two

Last Story has priority due to it being a rental. I believe I am about half-way through now, and wow what a game it is. All Wii games I want to replay are hear by cancelled until I am caught up on Wii U games.

Wii U games to play:
Assassin's Creed 3 (first priority)
Nintendo Land

Even my 3DS got backlogged:
Fire Emblem Awakening
Sticker Star
Kingdom Hearts 3D

The good news is that I have all of February to hopefully finish a few of these off.

I mentioned about saving a small block of time for retro titles, well it started off last week with my replaying and beating Mega Man 3. Last night I did Mega Man 2 on difficult mode. Right now keeping it to shorter NES games to not get too involved.

Finally a few titles made the chopping block. I beat Fire Emblem Awakening, and already want to start over. Yes this game is that good, but with way too many others, I won't just yet. I also beat Bloody Vampire. Shorter than I was expecting, but it was a pretty solid game.

If you didn't see the Last Story thread, I had beaten that one as well. So it will be time to switch gears a little and pick up some that I had neglected for a little while.

Looks like I'll be getting 2 games this week, then March will be striking. What fun...

It's been a while. Well since I typically had the podcast to lean on to talk about games I've been playing, well it's time for a good update.

Been playing recently:
Oracle of Seasons (3DS)
Solatorobo (DS on 3DS)
Sticker Star (need to beat it eventually...)
Yoshi (3DS)
Super Luigi U (just 100%ed it on Monday)
Trine 2 demo - FINALLY played it after downloading it months ago
Resident Evil Revelations (Wii U - will be continuing this week)
Donkey Kong 64 (on the N64 with my new Wireless Retrobit controller)

This last week, I've poured hours into Sticker Star. I just arrived at Bowser's Castle. I feel now is an appropriate time to discuss my thoughts, at I'm almost done with the game.

What I liked:
-variety of attacks via stickers
-map/level format
-puzzles/hidden areas
-collecting stickers / sticker museum

What I didn't like:
-(mini) battles were pointless, waste of time
-boss battles consisted of spamming the coin slot and using thing stickers
-limited sticker space (hard to collect ones to use later, and have a decent selection needed for those 'random' battles
-no story line
-no real leveling up
-no party members

For those wondering: 89/96 battle stickers; 57/64 thing stickers in my museum.

I'll be wrapping this one up soon, and will move on to another RPG until Mario & Luigi: Dream Team releases.
