Post Re: Movie Discussion
Saw Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows yesterday... pretty good! I'd say the second half was better than the first movie, but the first half seemed like it dragged and was kind of boring. Overall, I liked the first one a bit better, but this was also pretty enjoyable.

Spoiler: show
I thought the banter between Holmes and Watson was great, but overdone... that's what made the movie start out slow IMO. But it started to pick up pace. I was disappointed the trailer ruined most of the scenes as parts would come up and I'd be like "oh, this must be when this part happens". But it was pretty enjoyable overall. I loved the whole dynamic between Holmes and Moriarty, especially the sort of "mind battle" they had at the end, that was cool. Some movies over-do the slow-mo stuff and it can be a bit much in these movies, but I like the style they do them in. Very tactical and interesting. Also, the soundtrack had its moments, but the first movie had the better soundtrack I thought.

Saw Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and it was just plain epic. I cant wait to get it on Blu-Ray whenever. I think it was the best in the set. The movie had me think it would end at the most advertised portion of the movie, the tower in Dubai, but offered and continued way beyond that. Maybe part of the excitement from the movie was that I saw it in a brand spanking new theater (Screen so clear, and the sound so loud).

I also saw The Chronicles of Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader which was interesting. I hope they make more of the movies as they are pretty interesting and enjoyable. People who hate Edmond need to get out. But Eustace was cool too.

Lastly, I finished the two movies with the anime Eden of the East, in sum they followed up on the short anime about a group of people who were gifted with 10 bln yen to be saviors of JPN. Two movies provided some closure on the series. Definitely worth checking out, not a traditional anime.

Even though I've been incredibly busy with lots of problems coming up, I still went to see Sherlock Holmes in order to take a break/breather.

I really liked it, and I think it was better than the first one. I also think it was funnier than the first one too, which was a nice contrast to the mystery.

Finally watched Cars 2, been meaning to for a while. Cars was my least favorite of the Pixar movies, though I still enjoyed it. And I must say... Cars 2 was definitely much better. The plot was more interesting, the new environments from traveling around the world was awesome... Pixar was very creative in all that stuff. I was worried since I wasn't a big fan of Mater and this movie really has more of a focus on Mater than Lightning McQueen... but by the end of it, I'm not as annoyed by Mater and I thought his plot was pretty interesting. I really liked the new characters as well. All in all, it was a definite improvement. I'm not sure where it fits in with other Pixar movies (I don't really rank them against each other)... but I felt it was another quality Pixar film. A definite improvement from the first and pretty enjoyable all around.

Post Re: Movie Discussion
I guess it's time for my updated list of movies I want to see. Here it is...

Hidden (Non-Spoiler): show
Wrath of the Titans - Theatrical Release Date: 3/30/12 - My Viewing Preference: In Theaters
- I enjoyed Clash of the Titans in theaters, it was a fun movie. The trailer for Wrath of the Titans looks even better, so I'd say it's worth viewing in theaters for me.

The Avengers - Theatrical Release Date: 5/4/12 - My Viewing Preference: Day 1
- Loved Iron Man 1 and 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, and The First Avengers: Captain America... and I've been super hyped for this movie. Lots of building up to this movie for years and it has the potential to be super epic. Day 1 viewing for sure.

Brave - Theatrical Release Date: 6/22/12 - My Viewing Preference: In Theaters
- The trailer looked interesting and it's a Pixar movie, so definitely gonna try to see this in theaters.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation - Theatrical Release Date: 6/29/12 - My Viewing Preference: In Theaters
- I enjoyed the first one, thought it was a fun movie. The trailer for the next one looks pretty epic. While it does annoy me a bit that the villain they're going with doesn't seem to be entirely the direction the movie hinted at, I am still looking forward to seeing this one in theaters.

The Amazing Spider-Man - Theatrical Release Date: 7/3/12 - My Viewing Preference: In Theaters
- Definitely still annoyed by the the fact it's a reboot. Some things they've said sound interesting, and others things make me even more upset. I like the villain they're going with... but the images of the villain look terrible. I'm not very hyped for the movie, but Spider-Man is my favorite superhero so I will at least see this in theaters.

The Dark Knight Rises - Theatrical Release Date: 7/20/12 - My Viewing Preference: Day 1
- I saw Batman Begins at least twice, but I keep forgetting what happens, it was forgettable for me. The Dark Knight was great for me... but I thought what made it great was the Joker. I know the movie is hyped to death, and I think it's over-hyped. Don't get me wrong, it was an enjoyable movie, but there were just some things I couldn't take seriously... like how am I supposed to think Batman is super cool when he talks in a constipated voice? So, great movie... but I wasn't too hyped for its sequel. But then, the recent trailer released and my hype level shot up. So I'm definitely hoping to see this movie on release date in IMAX... that would be awesome.

The Bourne Legacy - Theatrical Release Date: 8/3/12 - My Viewing Preference: DVD
- I enjoyed the Bourne trilogy, thought they were cool. I'm just not seeing the appeal of a Bourne movie without Bourne. Sure it's in the same universe... but without Bourne, why bother? So as of now, it's a DVD rental for me... but I await the first trailer so I can make a better judgement.

Finding Nemo 3D - Theatrical Release Date: 9/14/12 - My Viewing Preference: In Theaters
- So I didn't know they were re-releasing Finding Nemo in 3D until just now. That was a great movie, and I'll probably see it in theaters just because it was great. I don't know how much the 3D will really add to this, but even without it it's worth a watch in theaters for me.

Taken 2 - Theatrical Release Date: 10/5/12 - My Viewing Preference: In Theaters
- I really enjoyed the first movie. From the little of the plot we know, it seems now it's Liam Neeson who is the one kidnapped, so I'm curious as to how that will play out. I think this should be a cool action/suspense movie to see in theaters.

Wreck-It Ralph - Theatrical Release Date: 11/2/12 - My Viewing Preference: In Theaters
- This is a Disney movie I heard about recently and it sounds amazing. It's about a bad guy in an arcade video game who doesn't like to be the bad guy... sounds like a really cool concept and should be fun for a gamer like me. This is actually a movie I'm really looking forward to... but whether I'll see it on release day or not depends on the trailer.

007: Skyfall - Theatrical Release Date: 11/9/12 - My Viewing Preference: In Theaters
- I really enjoyed Casino Royale and also Quantum of Solace somewhat as well... however this movie apparently doesn't have to do with either one. So I am disappointed by that, but it's a 007 movie so I'm looking forward to it.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey - Theatrical Release Date: 12/14/12 - My Viewing Preference: In Theaters
- It's been a long time since I've seen the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I remember enjoying them... but I was never like a mega fan of them. I was never that hyped for The Hobbit either... just didn't seem like a prequel would be all that interesting after the events of the Lord of the Rings, and the trailer did nothing to hype me up. Considering plenty of people thought it was awesome, I'm wondering if this is not for me. However, I think I will probably try to re-watch the trilogy sometime this year (extended editions of course, just like I saw before) and will probably end up seeing this movie in theaters as well. But that could change, just depends on a number of factors.

Monsters, Inc. 3D - Theatrical Release Date: 1/18/13 - My Viewing Preference: In Theaters
- Just like Finding Nemo 3D, I didn't know they were re-releasing this movie in 3D. Since I definitely enjoyed it, I'll probably try to see this in theaters as well.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters - Theatrical Release Date: 3/27/13 - My Viewing Preference: DVD
- I only saw the first one cause of Trist... it was more enjoyable than I expected, but nothing special. Not worth seeing in theaters probably, but the trailer could change my mind on that so we'll see.

Iron Man 3 - Theatrical Release Date: 5/3/13 - My Viewing Preference: Day 1
- Why wouldn't I see this? Any Marvel Studios movie in the cinematic universe they're building is a day 1 viewing for me. I enjoyed the first two Iron Man movies and I'm looking forward to this as well.

Star Trek 2 - Theatrical Release Date: 5/17/13 - My Viewing Preference: In Theaters
- I missed out on seeing the first movie in theaters, and I really enjoyed it. So I will definitely have to see this one in theaters... whether I see it on release date or not depends on how the trailer is.

Monsters University - Theatrical Release Date: 6/21/13 - My Viewing Preference: In Theaters
- I really liked Monsters, Inc. and I thought it was one of the Pixar movies that was perfect for a sequel... however this is a prequel. I'm actually not that hyped for it because of that. Knowing that it's Pixar though, I'm expecting it will be good and I will definitely try to see it in theaters. I eagerly await the trailer a while from now to see exactly how this movie will be.

Despicable Me 2 - Theatrical Release Date: 7/3/13 - My Viewing Preference: Day 1
- This was a movie that surprised me in how good it was, I really enjoyed it. I will definitely try to see this sequel on day 1.

Thor 2 - Theatrical Release Date: 11/15/13 - My Viewing Preference: Day 1
- Again, it's another Marvel Studios movie... day 1. I enjoyed the first one as well, so I look forward to this.

The Hobbit: There and Back Again - Theatrical Release Date: 12/13/13 - My Viewing Preference: In Theaters
- As I said with the previous Hobbit movie, I'm not really hyped. I'll try to see this in theaters, but a number of factors may change that from now until then.

So that's my look at movies for this year and next. Most of them are sequels... generally the original movies are ones I don't know about until much closer to release once I start seeing previews, so that's why the list doesn't have many of those. Feels weird creating this list and not seeing Harry Potter on there, or Transformers (though I fully expect there to be another).

I didnt go to to 2013 yet, I was shocked that they had moved forward with another Percy Jackson, gonna be so epic.

Just saw Pirates of the Carribean on Stranger Tides. I find the movies interesting, Barbossa (sp) was probably my favorite part of the cast, he was so hilarious. Jack was decent as well. Everything else was pretty decent to downright dumb. Inclusion of the missionary and Angelica was just baffling...

Spoiler: show
Angelica was so dumb in the end, really, mad at Sparrow for tricking her father into saving her?

Have they reused the plot points already, seems every single one involves "Black Pearl is missing!"

Finally saw Scott Pilgrim, so many of the little details made it awesome, and it had glorious visual effects. Gideon was so epic, probably my favorite. I feel as if Im the only one that doesnt like Scott x Ramona, at least in the movie. I thought it would be a full adaptation of the source.

The story starts to change around the book 3 part of the story, because the books were still being written when the script was being written. O'Malley worked closely with the script writing, but let them take it their own way on some details, which is why there are lots of differences in the second half. So, they really I'd follow the source as closely as possible, but around the third book, the source wasn't books anymore, it was just O'Malley. If I recall correctly, O'Malley actually took a line or two written for the movie and put it in the books because he like them more than what he wrote.

I might reread the books again. They should do an anime of it, now that its finished.

Wait, you never saw the movie? I'm honestly shocked as you were a massive Scott Pilgrim fan.

I enjoyed the movie, even bought it off iTunes. I agree on the little details, it was pretty cool. Also a lot of fun watching it at the student commons (Trist would know how entertaining that can be), which is where I first saw it.

Oh snaps, I need to write my ten favorite movies on 2011 post. Surprised no one else said their favorite movies of the year.

Not sure I saw 10 movies this year. Due to how costly it is, I don't go every often anymore. $20+ for 2 tickets, another $10 for snacks/pop corn, gets expensive.

No. After seeing the movie, there's no way I could enjoy the comics. What made the movie enjoyable was the visual effects, the delivery of the lines, the musical cues, etc. I liked the movie because it felt like a comic come to life... so I have no interest in the comic.

I mentioned my stuff a bit. But here's my list...

01) Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2
02) Transformers: Dark of the Moon
03) Captain America: The First Avenger
04) Thor
05) The Muppets
06) Mission Impossible - Ghost Protocol
07) Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
08) X-Men: First Class
09) Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides
10) Real Steel

Honestly, I'm only truly set on the first two... the other 8 could move around a bit depending on my mood. I enjoyed all ten of those movies, and it's hard for me to rank some of them.

Probably do my 10 tomorrow or something. Anyway.

I saw the movie, Naruto Shippuden Movie 2: Bonds. Naruto looks great in HD, so glad Viz did the Blu Ray over, will have to check out Bleach Fade to Black as well. Sasuke made the movie quite epic, after his odd absence from the first Shippuden one it was great to have him back. Entire sequence of fighting with Naruto against the doctor through Sasuke's and Naruto's closing scene of that airship part was epic. Now to wait two more years for the next Naruto Shippuden movie. Oh and Sai was pretty cool. Best part was when Sasuke smiled at Naruto, I thought it was pretty cool, and the implication that Sasuke felt good seeing Naruto.

So I saw Kung Fu Panda 2 and I liked it, thought it was better than the first. I enjoyed the first one... but I found that it didn't hold up as well on repeat viewings for me. When I watched it with my roommates, one of them would laugh so hard at stuff and it was contagious so I enjoyed it more than usual. So when I saw the first movie again later, it wasn't as enjoyable to me. But I saw the second one on Blu-ray, just watched it by myself... I enjoyed it overall. Thought it was pretty funny and it had an interesting story.

Also, about the final scene:
Spoiler: show
I wasn't expecting to see Po's dad and the other pandas alive, that was interesting. I have no doubt they'll do a third movie... but I think they just threw that in there to make it interesting. I don't see them doing much about the pandas in the third movie, as it feels like Po has come to terms with what happened. I don't know, it'll be interesting to see where they go from here.

I do feel like they're running this franchise to the ground though... the TV show was decent, nothing special from the episode I saw. That's the unfortunate thing about Dreamworks, seems they're willing to take many of their franchises and just run them to the ground. They've gotten much better quality movies lately, but it's a shame they're going too far with them.

So I went and saw Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol last night and it actually wasn't bad. Some parts were a little drawn out and it was hard to suspend my disbelief at some moments but over all it was a decent movie with some great action scenes.

TOP NINE!!

Yes, I said nine. I still haven't seen every movie that I wanted to, so I didn't want to complete my list.

1. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: This was an easy choice. I absolutely loved the movie, all the way from the beginning to the end.
2. Drive: This was a surprise, I didn't know what to expect when I saw this movie, and it definitely wasn't what I expected. It was a great movie, the main character barely talked but there was still so much emotion. Ryan Gosling was just amazing.
3. The Ides of March: Yes. Another movie with Gosling. I don't care for politics, but I saw this movie because it was playing at school. It was yet another huge surprise, this just blew me away.
4. Mission Impossible 4: It's no James Bond flick, and I still don't really feel attached to Ethan Hunt, but there was a lot of action and a good story.
5. The Adventures of Tintin: I've read Tintin since I was a kid, and this didn't disappoint.
6. Moneyball: I heard great things about this movie, so when I saw that it was at the "cheap" theatre I decided to go with some friends. Great choice.
7. Midnight in Paris: Saw this one on the plane flying back from Germany. I really enjoyed it, but I need to watch it again on a better screen.
8. X-Men First Class: The best super hero movie of the year.
9. The Muppets: A classic, reborn.

But I still really need to see:
The Artist
The Descendants
Tinker Tailer Soldier Spy
The Tree of Life

And I want to say, if you haven't seen any of my top three. GO SEE THEM NOW.

Post Re: Movie Discussion
Watched Dragon Tattoo last night. I'd seen the Swedish version a couple years ago or something, but I didn't remember much. I really enjoyed the US version (and remember enjoying the Swedish version back when I saw it). The only part I don't like is
Spoiler: show
that Harriet is living under the identity of Anita. For such an incredible story with fantastic characters, that's such a huge let-down. Granted, that has less to do with the movie and more to do with the book, but I still think it's the weakest part of the story.
