The Sing-Off (wow... this is actually quite good)
Have any of you guys heard of "The Sing-Off"? It's a singing competition featuring a cappella groups that airs on NBC. The first season was in four parts, and season 2 has 5 episodes and is currently airing now (episode 3 aired last night). All the episodes (from this season at least) are up on Hulu.
I must say... this show is really good IMO. American Idol has been getting worse and worse every season and I'm honestly not sure if I'm even going to watch this season or not. You know how in American Idol there are only like one or two standout contestants while the rest are usually okay or just horrible? On The Sing-Off, almost every single group is good. Honestly, after almost every single performance, I'm like "that was good" and there have been many moments in the first two episodes where I was like "WOW, that was awesome". I'm almost a third of the way into the third episode, and I had to pause it to tell people about it. This is definitely my favorite singing competition on TV. You wouldn't expect it to be that great since not many people have heard of it and it's really short, but IMO it's quite good.
So yea, I highly recommend watching it. It's only 5 episodes long and you can catch up on Hulu. The first three episodes are on Hulu, episode 4 airs this Wednesday, and the finale is next Monday. Anyone else been watching this?

I am not really a fan of this type of show but I have watched it before and I agree with you DW. I caught some of it last night and I thought the groups were pretty decent.

Caught it last season, good, but I hate how they keep it so short >.<

Re: The Sing-Off (wow... this is actually quite good)
I guess I also didn't mention how I really like the format of the show... there's a huge emphasis on the singing, rather than the drama or the judges or any of that other lame stuff. The judges actually know what they're talking about and are quite qualified for the job, and they get right to the point basically but say it in a positive, constructive manner. My only disappointment is the fact that it's so short, but honestly... maybe that's the problem. I think some other shows drag things out too long. I'd like to see this show extended a little bit longer, but I don't think it would work well if it were as long as like American Idol or other shows that length.
Oh, and I find a cappella can be more difficult because there is no band backing you up or anything, and they are also doing some choreography of their own... yet it sounds good almost all the time. Pretty impressive stuff, and there have been times when I totally forgot that there were no instruments cause it sounded like there were.

I forgot it started tonight. I watched about half of last year's season and thought it was great! We're busy moving this week, so I'll have to catch tonight's show later online or something.

Re: The Sing-Off (wow... this is actually quite good)
I enjoyed the first episode, great start to the season. Most of the groups were good and some of them were excellent. My favorite so far is the group Delilah, they freaking nailed that performance, that was incredible. Urban Method was probably my second favorite, I thought that was good as well. I thought Sara Baraeilles (or however you spell that) was a good new judge. What I like about the show is that for the most part, the focus is on the music... the judges also actually offer more constructive criticism which is great. So yea, I look forward to seeing the other half of the groups next Monday!

Agreed on the 2nd team they let go, but didn't see the first one perform. I really like the 2 you mentioned and the last one that performed.

It's nice to actually have competent judges for a change on a singing competition lol.

He obviously knows a lot about the technical/science behind music.

It's actually quite nice to hear someone actually get into technical talk, it shows they're actually judging based on the music and not just thinking of what clever thing to say next.

Re: The Sing-Off (wow... this is actually quite good)
It's getting better and better. I can't say this enough, this show is the best singing competition on television IMO. The groups are fantastic, some of the performances make my jaw drop literally, and the judges are almost always completely on point. It is seriously music to my ears... literally. I watch X-Factor and American Idol for the entertainment (though I may give up on AI, idk yet)... but The Sing-Off is where all the musical talent truly is. Great episode tonight, that rocked.

Re: The Sing-Off (wow... this is actually quite good)
Wow man, this season has been really freaking good. Like, every episode I'll be blown away by the talent and actually have my jaw drop at some performances. I'll finish the episode thinking "man, there is some serious talent there"... and then next episode they top that. Every single freaking episode. And it's at the point now that I'm a fan of every single group on there, they all have had killer performances... most of them have killer performances every week.
Seriously man, just cancel everything else on TV... give me The Sing-Off and I'm set. Such amazing talent.

Really enjoying it (no big surprise, since I liked the little bit I saw last season).
All of them are so good!

Re: The Sing-Off (wow... this is actually quite good)
Holy freaking shoot. Like wow. Just... oh man. What in the world. That was freaking insane. Where am I right now? Is this real?
Seriously, tonight's The Sing-Off was amazing. You know it's good when the group kicked off was insanely talented and they were my least favorite of the four. Next week is the live finale, and voting is open for the finale. My favorite is Pentatonix and I encourage as many people as possible to vote for them, they're amazing! Just dial 1-877-674-6401, or text 1 to 97979, or vote online on the website... it only takes a second so please vote. Seriously, all other singing competitions should just quit now, they're trash compared to this show. I'm going to totally go through withdrawals after next week when it's over.

I voted for Urban Method. They are still my favorite, but Pentatonix are my second favorite. Glad to see Afro Blue go. I wasn't a fan.

Re: The Sing-Off (wow... this is actually quite good)
The finale is TONIGHT! I'm both excited and said. I'm looking forward to all the performances and seeing who the winner is, however I'm sad that it's all ending already. It's a shame that the show is only on for so long... and unfortunately, the ratings have been dropping and we don't know if there will be another season or not. I can't believe people prefer watching the crap that is X-Factor over this, people are stupid.
However it's not all bad news... The Sing-Off is getting a holiday special! A special live episode called "A Sing-Off Christmas" will air next Monday, December 5th from 8-10 pm. It will feature groups from all three seasons including the winners of season one (Nota) and season two (Committed). Other groups there will be The Backbeats, Beelzebubs, On the Rocks, Street Corner Symphony, and many of the top ten groups from this season. They will perform holiday and inspirational classics, and Flo Rida will also appear and perform his single "Good Feeling". The judges will all perform as well... Sara Bareilles and Ben Folds will do a holiday duet, and Shawn Stockman will do a Christmas classic with season one winner Nota.
The more of The Sing-Off, the better! Glad to hear it won't be all over after today, there's still next week.

CONGRATS to the winners! Pentatonix were my favorites to win after they did an awesome performance week after week. So happy for them, they deserved it. I can't wait to see what they do in the future.

Re: The Sing-Off (wow... this is actually quite good)
Well that was awesome! Just watching the holiday special that aired today... had groups from all three seasons and lots of awesome performances. So many great moments, too many to list, but one I did want to mention was the neat performance of Flo Rida's "Good Feeling". It was cool seeing Flo Rida perform his song with Urban Method and Pentatonix, acapella style. And now, the season is officially over, which makes me sad. I REALLY hope NBC renews the show, despite it dropping in ratings.

Re: The Sing-Off (wow... this is actually quite good)
So I'm casually browsing around Facebook and I see a status update from Pentatonix saying they updated their events listing so people should check that out. I figured, why not, let's see what my favorite a capella group is up. Cool, there are 4 events listed. Ooh, what's this one... the "Singstrong A Capella Festival" sounds interesting... Friday, March 23rd, that's neat... the location is... wait... am I reading this right... this can't be... RESTON VIRGINIA!!! That's like right here!!! My favorite a capella group is coming HERE! But nothing ever happens here! HELL YES I HAVE TO GO TO THIS!!!
So yea, I'm insanely excited right now. Apparently the group Afro-Blue from season 3 will be there as well, so that's cool. I am going to try and get a plan together ASAP and I have to go to this!
