Decided to make a topic like the recent purchase thread. Maybe you got a gift from your wife/girlfriend, husband/boyfriend, your parents, grandparents, etc. Maybe it's your birthday, or a holiday, or just a random gift you got. Or maybe you are planning on a giving a particular gift. Anything you got/gave or planned gifts, feel free to discuss here.

I'll start off, my birthday isn't till a little less than a month away, but my parents decided to let take some of my gifts home last night. I got 4 pairs of cargo shorts, some new undershirts, new pair of shoes (for running) and a pair of jeans. I've been working out a lot still and my body is slimmed down and I've been in need to get new clothes that fit much better. They also pre-ordered and shipping to my house, New Super Mario Brothers 2. Also, they brought home some gifts from their cruise in the Mediterranean sea. I got a little tiny shoes that are tied together, and also a bottle of cologne that was made by a company doing it for like 300 or 400 years or something they said. Smells good!

Bought my dad a decent set of saddle bags for his Harley.
Bailed a friend out for 4 grand (normally this would be a loan, but I highly doubt I'll ever see a dime of this back).

I Got Minecrafter47 that game for his B-Day

Not sure if this is the best topic to ask this, but it fits with the theme since it will be a gift to myself from my wife.

I'm on the fence about which to ask for from my wife for my birthday. I originally was thinking the Kindle (original or touch) and yesterday I made a tweet about August Wishes saying I'd like to be surprised with the 3DS XL (like a random gift). Well, she definitely saw the tweet and asked which one I wanted more. So I wanted thoughts or opinions which would be the better one to get. Before casting judgment, here is some additional background information:

I don't really need either, as I have a galaxy tablet to read kindle books. I only have 2 kindle books in my account and I'd love to get more. My reasoning for wanting it is more so to have a lightweight reading device and I'd be able to use it at the beach. While the tablet is nice to have, it's more the back light and being heavier to carry around. Also, the battery life is not terrific either.

I've been reading reviews on the 3DS XL and it sounds like it would be "nice" to have as well. The anti-glare screens, the smoother corners and better battery life seem to be a good improvement. Again I already have the 3DS already, it would just be a replacement for it and would require that I trade in the original.

I much prefer reading books on my iPad then on a Kindle, mostly because my iPad can also do so much more and I don't want to have hundreds of random devices when I've got one for everything.

I prefer reading good old fashon paperback books!

Due to scheduling and my sister's upcoming wedding labor day weekend, we celebrated my birthday (along with my dad's and my sister in law) today. I got 2 sets of jeans, some checks/cash, bingo lotto ticket (loser :(), Mario Party 9, new pair of shoes, Cubs magnets, Gamestop gift card, IOS gift card.

My sister also just got back from Australia (not the one getting married, my other sister), and she brought me 2 shot glasses (I collect them), and a boomerang.

Since we found out more last minute about tonight, we had to get my sister-in-law a nook gift card and my dad an IOS gift card (he may be getting the new iPad from my mom); but he does have the iPad 1 and an iPod Touch currently as well.

Got some cash and my Mom bought me the Hunger Games DVD.

I've sort of been gifting myself lately, like with the 3DS XL. However today is a religious holiday and I did get some money. Nothing in particular I want at the moment, but I'll save it for something in the future.

I bought my girlfriend a Coach wallet/pouch thing for her birthday. She got me a shirt from the newly reopened Attract Mode for my half birthday (our birthdays are almost exactly 6 months apart, so we get each other a gift for each of our birthdays). I'm also taking her out to dinner at this fancy restaurant called Bleu tomorrow. She's pretty excited.

I guess this is a gift to myself..

I redeemed points from the powerup rewards program and got the Legend of Zelda entire series on DVD. It's been years since I saw it, I know it's corny as heck, but it was mostly for nostalgic feelings I have.

Also in my Black Friday deals, I did buy a gift that will be given to me from my wife. I've wanted an e-reader, so we found a Nook that was on sale at Sears for $40, well I didn't get that one, but Target had it for $50. So I was able to get it from there.

She would have gotten it, but the Ellen show was at our local Best Buy for some promotion, so she waited to see what that was about. It was basically raffle for $100 Best buy gift cards, there were like 20 given away and a $1000 was also given to 1 person. So I went to get 'myself' the Nook, which I'll get Christmas Day.

She also got me a Nintendo Monopoly game (which I unfortunately already have) so I exchanged it for Cash and got 2 games. Picked up Goldeneye 007 and DK64. I had sold my original system like 4 years ago for some side cash, and well I really miss it. So I asked for a new one.

Just bought my dad a new Toaster, my mother a coffee machine, and a variety of videogames for my room mates. Christmas shopping's done, I hate this time of year.

Gave my girlfriend a Chemex for Christmas (gave it to her early). She loves it.

Touch-screen compatible gloves (for those cold mornings on campus), a Brita water bottle (complete with filters - I'm the water drinker in the family), a couple of decorative desk pens and some clothing, candy, and a little university memorabilia. A practical Christmas for a student with no time on his hands - I couldn't have asked for any better.
