Super Mario 3D Land VS Mario Kart 7
Hey guys!
I know some people are faced with this question: Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 - Which one should I buy? Well, never fear, Gametex is here to answer your question.
Super Mario 3D Land is a one player game with the usual Mario plot - Bowser has kidnapped Peach. You have the same sort of level layout as Super Mario 64 DS, but parts of the game look like they have come from New Super Mario Bros. (Wii). There are also new power-ups such as Mario's Tanooki suit. If you activate StreetPass, when you pass another 3DS user you can exchange items and collect things. The problem with this game is how it's designed so you can't fail; If you're struggling with a level, eventually a power-up will come and save the day. You may disagree that this is a problem, but games are designed so they can challenge you, not let you play in your sleep.
Mario Kart 7 is a single/multiplayer game that lets you play as your favourite Super Mario characters in a variety of courses designed around the world of Mario. This game, unlike Super Mario 3D Land, lets you play online using SpotPass or WiFi. You can also play as your Mii (unlockable) and design your own cart to drive in. You can also use StreetPass in this game.
I hope this has helped you decide which one you want to buy, or if you want to buy both.
DISCLAIMER: Part of these reviews are opinion. Do NOT blame me if you don't like what you get. Mario and Nintendo 3DS are trademarks of Nintendo®.

Thankfully I finished my game 100% before getting my first street pass. The levels are already loaded with powerups (at least the original world ones), and you can technically revisit them for powerups as well. I would definitely vote up Mariokart 7 as it has a longer life span than the adventure game. Typically I will play through the adventure a few other times down the road, but I'd be more likely to play MK7 online in small doses. With my planning of the Ambassador Competition nearly finished, I plan to play some more MK7 online and finally get in that Tetris Axis online with Hassan (Darkwish) and Steve (Hattrick).

Re: Super Mario 3D Land VS Mario Kart 7
They are two very different types of games. I prefer Mario Kart 7 cause I love Mario Kart and also racing online, but I also really like Super Mario 3D Land. But I can't definitively recommend one over the other... it just depends on the person's preference. 3D Platformer vs. Kart Racer. But if I had to pick one, I would go with Mario Kart 7 cause of my personal preference.

They revealed that a new 2D platformer will be out by March 2013. I don't think it will "fix" 3D Land, but I'm guessing it won't be very 3D like and anyway similar to 3D Land. It will likely be "New Super Mario Brothers 3D", meaning a classic like the original on the NES, but with new powerups and just 3D graphics (not movement like 3D Land).

I did miss the announcement, yes. I hope Nintendo are receiving lots of bad comments on 3D Land so they change it. I have a feeling that if you're right about 'New Super Mario Bros. 3D' then it'll be quite hard to control - the Circle Pad won't make going straight easy.

I don't know about you, but I didn't think SM3DL had many problems to fix. I really like it! Secondly, the next Mario 3DS game will be a side-scroller, so something different than 3D Land.

You still have yet to answer if you truly did finish all of Super Mario 3D Land, cause from the sound of it, you have not. Regardless, that was its own thing... there is nothing to fix about it or anything. It's different than any other Mario game cause it's a mix of the 2D and 3D Mario. And as hattrick said, the next Mario on 3DS is a 2D platformer... just like New Super Mario Bros and New Super Mario Bros Wii and all the old school Mario games. I don't get where you're pulling these control issues out of, doesn't make sense.

Re: Super Mario 3D Land VS Mario Kart 7
DW - he said it would be hard to control because of the circle pad. I haven't had any issues, especially with 3DS games and the circle pad. Sure I had few mishaps, but those are more rare. I have no major issues with controls using the circle pad.
It didn't make sense since it will be a 2D game, there won't be much of a distinction between down-left/down/down-right as it could be with 3D games.

I should change it, too, as I have been playing Mario Kart DS on the 3DS and, even though it was designed for the plus pad, it worked very well. P.S. I'm only criticising it because I was really disappointed with the game. It really isn't as bad as I make it sound, I personally just don't like it.

Re: Super Mario 3D Land VS Mario Kart 7
I've played both games and honestly I like mk7 more (in my opinion) because I got bored playing Mario 3d land it's basically the same thing as all the other super Mario games except in 3d and better graphics and mk7 is more exciting because even after you beat the game you can play online unlock more parts like the gold ones and you can verse your friends so that's why I prefer mk7 than Mario 3d land

Two top funnest (yeah, not a word) games on 3ds, mariokart 7 and sm3dland. Those 2 ARE the reason to own a 3DS.
